Hello Everyone, I am writing to let everyone know I have arrived in the city of Kenosha, WI.. So far, I love it here... Everything is within close distance. Albeit it can get cold here, but as long as I bundle up, I should be fine.

Are there any spotters in the Kenosha/Racine/Milwaukee area who would like to get together some day? Let me know... Contact me through the Contact form on my profile.

My sister lives about a mile north of the Illinois border. Where she resides is technically called Pleasant Prairie...but Kenosha addresses begin right down the street. I actually like the area...it is well situated....an hour north and you're in Milwaukee....an hour south and you're in the outskirts of Chicago. Beware though...right around downtown and around 52nd street can be quite rough....be careful when you're in that area. Have fun with the weather though...it sucks ass.

Welcome to Wisconsin from a non-native.

I live in Delavan, about 45 minutes away. You should come on out to .50 cent night at the Geneva Lakes Kennel Club....50 beer, admission, hot-dogs, pizza,
soda, popcorn, etc.

If you're not a Green Bay fan, don't let it be very widely known. My car has been keyed already.

Hi Skyway1, I hear they are building a new Supercenter... It will be ready in 1 year. I believe the Harley place has moved... Ain't seen Blockbuster yet, but I have seen Walgreens... I checked out Racine last night, but I plan on going again soon and doing some more exploring... I may end up taking Pilot Lessons at MAS Flight School in ENW.. You know the old saying,

Come to Kenosha on vacation, leave on probation. I did't really see anything to justify that saying but I heard it enough times.

ATCRick....

Does that saying have anything to do with the legal drinking age limit??? I've heard stories about kids that would come up from Illinois and drink when the legal age was 18 I believe. Also....it's funny to see all the XXX shacks by the side of the road right after you enter Wisconsin!  Nuts  Nuts

I believe the AMC plant churned out Jeep vehicles for awhile and is now an engine plant. And I'll second the notion that the outlet mall isn't that nice. The mall to go to is Gurnee Mills as long as you don't mind battling the crowds.

I thought that Chrysler bulldozed the old Jeffrey/Nash/Rambler/AMC plant about 5 minutes after the last "real" AMC employee walked out the door.

Part of the buy out of AMC was the condition that the plant would stay open for a fairly long period of time, as I understood it. Chrysler had contracted with American Motors to build it's Diplomat/Gran Fury/5th Avenue RWD cars there, as part of the eventual take over. The RWD cars went away in '89. I have a book on AMC that has a photo of the plant pretty much flattened out....

The "Original" outlet mall is a total shithole. Lakeside, just down 94 and on the East side is not bad, but I don't think that's technically Kenosha anymore...it may be Bristol...or is it IL proper?

From what I hear from my mom, Brett Favre is my distant cousin on the favre side of my family (My great-grandmother)... But I haven't seen much proof (Although he is said to have attended the last family reunion, which I missed).. So Yes, I am a packers fan... and he is from Kiln, MS.. so I believe it.

And you sounded so smart?  Smile

I don't think there's really all that much to "do," in Kenosha. However, drive up to the Landmark by the airport...they have 50 beers on tap, $2 happy-hour, and its next door to the "Airport Lounge," a crappy strip-club, but its great when you're trashed and need to sober up.

You can also go to 7-mile fair for a taste of Little Mexico, or if you want to buy some bootlegged CDs, but its great for fresh fruits/veggies in the summertime.

If the Lakeside Mall(I think that place sucks too) is considered anything but Kenosha then it would most likely be in Pleasant Prairie.

I'm not sure what buildings were flattened......but there still is a considerable Chrysler plant where the old AMC existed. To the best of my knowledge it is now a Chrysler engine plant.

You should go to the Mars Cheese Castle on the west side of I-94....just kidding  Nuts  Nuts

EDIT: I did a quick search and it indicated that the Kenosha engine plant has 1,090 employees and builds the 2.5 and 4.0 liter Jeep motors as well as the beloved 2.7V6 motor. After having read the previous posts about the 2.7 engine problems....I think we have the answer as to what the problem is...it's built in Kenosha!!!!  Nuts  Nuts

Skyway,

You are correct about the engine plant. As a matter of fact, Chrysler used to fly in a couple of times a week in their G-5's from Detroit. I imagine they probably still do.

I also believe you are correct about the Illinois kids coming up because of the lower drinking age.

I've been to the Mars Cheese Castle. What a dump. I much prefer the Brat Stop just down the street. It was a great place to watch football games.

Its called Bong Recreation Area. Once in a while you will see people stop and get their picture taken next to the sign.

Also my sympathies for moving here. You have now been transported back to 1985. You should receive a care package in the mail soon with the following items: one pair of Green Bay Packers Zoobas, one Green Bay Packers sweatshirt (two sizes to small), a tape of REO Speedwagon's Greatest hits, and a polyester jacket form On the Border. Enjoy your new gifts.

Nice Trip Report!!! Great Pics, thanks for posting!!!! B747Forever
