as he chewed victim's face off by side of freeway
Quote: The moment police shot a naked man to death as he chewed the face off another man has been caught on CCTV.
Images show the legs of two men lying beneath a freeway underpass in Miami when a police car arrives on the scene.
Police shot the man thinking it would end the attack, but the aggressor continued to bite his victim prompting authorities to fire at least half a dozen shots until he died.
Quote: But when he refused to listen and continued to feast on the victim, the officer shot him, according to the newspaper.
Despite suffering a bullet wound, the naked man would not stop so the officer fired about six more shots.
In that barrage of gunfire, the naked man was killed, collapsing face-down on the pedestrian walkway right by the Herald's parking garage.

Since he was naked he obviously didn't have any concealled weapons that could cause any harm.
Would have been interesting to hear what prompted him to strip naked under a freeway and chew off someone's face....
The zombie comments have been making the rounds with this story in the various places I've seen it posted. I wonder if he would have had the chance, would he have eaten their liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti?
This reminds me of the guy up in Canada several years back that beheaded a guy on a Greyhound bus and started to eat him.

There has been several suggestions of LSD overdose causing him to "burning up from inside" and thus stripping down.
It is also said it to cause loss of pain and abnormal strength. Essentially those are the reasons given by the police spokesman who already labeled the policeman taking the shoots a hero.
The biggest irony is that it is big butt (urban) weekend in Miami Beach with more police than ever before. This happened on the other side of the main causeway.

Or it could be Angel Dust!
That causes zombies...err....I mean people to have super human powers.
LSD just makes you see things and is supposed to be cool when you listen to the Grateful Dead.
I've known a few guys that did acid years ago. None of them dragged a dude under a freeway to strip down naked and eat another man's face.

How come I haven't heard about this? I thought I was on top of everything.
Are you implying that he should have ate someone's butt instead?

Cocaine can do this to you too, if consumed nonstop in big quantities. It will induce a psychotic-paranoic state and then all bets are off. I find it harder to think that LSD was the culprit here, unless it was a bad batch.

It started about 10 years ago. Pretty much is Miami Beach at its worst. After last years shootings the police went all the way this year. Pretty much shut down i-395 Friday and plenty of id checks to enter residential areas.

LSD is not known to do many of these things. PCP, on the other hand, is known for making people absolutely insensate to pain (requiring multiple shots to fell) and even severe injury.

Looks like Miami Beach at it's best. A lot of those girls look good. I just don't like all those dudes standing around dressed like thugs.
This story reminds me of one of my favorite low-budget B-movies named Avenging Disco Godfather.
Rudy Ray Moore (Dolomite) is a dancer and a DJ that takes to the streets to go after the Angel Dust dealers.
His nephew got hooked on Angel Dust and some of the hallucination scenes were over the top.
It's a great movie to get high or drunk and watch with your buddies.

Only repeating what is stated in the local news who frequently show a police spokesman stating it. Drugs and their effects isn't an area where I can claim any kind of expertise.

Obviously you're being a little 'tongue in cheek' here, but at the same time, it goes to prove that firearms aren't the only deadly weapons around.
Quoting srbmod (Reply 3): This reminds me of the guy up in Canada several years back that beheaded a guy on a Greyhound bus and started to eat him.
Freaky stuff.
Cases like these are why I get angry when people try to take away other people's rights to self defense. Obviously violence can be done without firearms. I'd like to be able to protect myself when needed. Sure, possibly a firearm wouldn't have helped the victim in either of these situations - but there are some freaks out there, and I'd like to take some precautions.

According to the news (however reliable they are these days), sources say it was LSD, and this actually isn't the first case (although it's the most bizarre).

And info on both the zombie and victim. Everyone down here is calling the guy a zombie, craziest story I have ever heard my guess is drugs too. Cop asked the guy to back away from the victim he kept chewing and even grawled at the officer like a dog. Officer shot him once and he kept eating! Someone acting like that attempting to kill someone right there no other way but to shoot the guy. Officer and everyone else involved did a good job, may have saved some future attacks that day. Who knows.

Would a tranquilizer gun that they use for stray bears work? That way they could subdue him until sober. Then water-board him to get information about more zombies that may be lurking out there....

Assuming you are not being facetitious, the degree of intoxication this guy had by at least two substances would have probably made a tranquilizer do any sort of things to his system BUT subdue him. At the very least it probably would have done nothing, at worst, increase his psycosis. When a person is so intoxicated, you introduce another substance, all bets are off.

Most likely the attacker had severe mental health problems possibly aggravated by the use of some very bad drugs Yesterday in Seattle, you had a sick person do random shootings then kill himself. There are disturbing kidnappings and murders way too often here in the USA (and sometimes elsewhere). To me these terrible events suggest that we have very serious problems with our mental health care, health privacy and rights as well as our social services systems here in the USA. What happened in Miami is a terrible example of how sick humans can be to another human. I hope in his death they are able to do a through autopsy, especially of his brain as well as inspire help for others on such a severe edge.

Nobody has mentioned this, but I was a LEO before I got into the Medical Field, and have yet to see why there was no escalation of force, every LEO carries a Taser these days, the guy was naked, with no weapon. I understand I was not there, and am not trying to armchair, but with fatal shootings, there is usually some explanation of why deadly force was the only option? I am not saying the guy did not deserve it, I just have seen totally justified LEO involved shootings, and there is still an investigation.

Quoting Mudboy (Reply 43): and have yet to see why there was no escalation of force
Because it would have put the officer's life at risk. The effects of stuff like "bath salts" (we really need to find a new term for it) and PCP is now well known and documented. Tasers have ZERO effect. Going hands on would be a losing proposition with less than 4 strong people. Add that to all the blood and being on the side of the road, plus the guy had already attacked someone and won...
Quoting Mudboy (Reply 43): I am not saying the guy did not deserve it
I'm sure you didn't mean it like this, but cops should never dole out punishments, especially when it comes to deadly force.

I don't think the guy was killed necessarily because the LEO's life was in danger; rather, the victim's life was in grave danger and the attacker was not responding to demands by the LEO. An escalation of force may well have resulted in the victim's immediate death. Shooting the attacker had the best probability of stopping what the attacker was doing.
I don't see what the issue is.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. An aviation forum isn't the place to do that, though. I said "I don't see what the issue is", *assuming* that the LEO was placed on administrative leave like most agencies do, pending investigation, and all the standard follow-up. My statement was not intended to dismiss any consequences (administrative or otherwise) from the use of the weapon, but rather as a first-pass "seems like it was justified".
Caveated enough?
