Well work continues to provide me with amazing stretches of time off, and I have chose my next vacation destination. I will be going to the city of Larnaca on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea, or Adana Turkey. I have two weeks off of work in late April early May and will be snagging a jumpseat on one of World's flights over there via Ramstien Air Force base in Germany. I plan on spending a week relaxing in the sun, and just having a good old time. It looks like ADA is going to work out best for me flight schedule wise, but I am keeping LCA as a backup plan. Can anyone in either city give me some info on the sights and sounds, or people who have been there as well? I am 25, straight, and am looking for good bars, clubs, beaches, and points of interest. It looks like ADA is a bit far from the beach. Is there a town south of the city that I can reside in so that I may avoid a lot of travel back and forth? Thanks for all of your help in advance.

AirTran737,
I was in Cyprus in April of 04. Had a great time. I'm 46 and not into the bar scene, but I know there are a lot of British Pubs that some of my friends went to and had a great time. There are also some great restaurants that don't look so hot from the outside. Check out the menus posted outside and decide. I took tours into the Troodos Mountains. They are absolutely gorgeous! There are monasteries and churches all over. Most of the tours into the mountains are by Land Rovers and the drivers are very good. Once again, the scenery from the mountains is fantastic. You can pick up info on all tours at your hotel. Most of the hotels are of the apartment style variety. I stayed at the Petrou Bros hotel in Larnaca. Very nice people and reasonably priced ($30.00 per night in April 04) www.petrou.com.cy/index.html
The exchange rate is not too good, I think it's around 2.3 USD to 1 CYP (Cypriot Pound). Things are not too expensive though. Everybody speaks English, as it's a former British Colony and they drive on the left (ugh!) There are Americans sharing the RAF base at Akrotiri FYI. There is a consulate office in Larnaca as well. The beaches are quite nice and there is scuba diving offered as well. I made one dive that April but we all decided it was too cold so we just hung out at the dive locker eating and drinking! There are several along the beach in Larnaca. There is a capsized car carrier that is a popular dive spot!
Relations between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots in the North are good and getting better. I don't know if there are tours to the north from the south, but look into it. They will re-unify one day.
If there is anything else I can help you with, don't hesistate to contact me.
Have a great trip,
Marc

If you're looking for parties and drunk, promiscuous Scandinavian girls, take a look at Kos, Rhodos, or Ibiza.

I am hitching a ride on a military movement, so my options are limited to those two cities.
