Quite possibly, since the actual fence does not follow the internationally recognized border. In many places it is offset several dozen meters into ISRAELI TERRITORY.

Actually this is what LBC Chanel from Lebanon said

I in general regard the MARKED fences of borders as THE border, whenever it is known that the legal border sometimes is somewhat different. And authorities around the globe respect the fence-lines, as the other lines are practically invisible. And anyway, to cross the fence-line to capture a 15years old is rubbish --- and most probably was some kind of error.

and a quote :
"""" Lebanese security sources said the man was gathering scrap metal in an area near the border with Israel when he was detained. They identified him as Mahmoud Hussein Hajj, a resident of Houla. Local residents have been collecting and selling scrap metal since last summer's 34-day war between Israel and Hizbullah.(AFP) """
-
THIS may well explain why the Israelis moved, as scrap-metal from a distance may look like weaponry, and fairly harmless body-movements may be mistaken for something else. Fairly obvious, and I hope the Israelis simply clarify this point accordingly .
-
Beside the point that to motorbike around in such a border-area is not exactly the thing to do !
-
I am fairly certain, that Israelis, UN-Indonesians and Lebanese in the meantime have "told" him about such thoughts !

Kay, he was "detained", not "kidnapped", so maybe the title should be changed.
And, unlike Hamas whom you seemingly see no wrong with, this person was RELEASED in 5 HOURS. Now, how about those two Israeli soldiers tha have been held for 7 MONTHS be released?

I'm glad the Israelis are at least watching the border now. Letting certain Lebanese individuals loiter around the fence freely has proven to be very costly.

sure, it may turn out that they got him to give him some most serious LECTURING ! I hope the Indonesians UN men and the Lebanese security men also told him a bit about what is sensible and what not. Looks like a thing about a silly teenager .

A) Hamas is NOT a regular army but an irregular militia, in spite of now being in "government"
B) the Israelis did NOT want the young man, but most certainly wanted to clarify matters
C) if I was with the IDF I would NOT love to be compared with a bunch of fundamentalist zealots

unfortunately a totally different topic. We discussed about the required "cattle-trading-exercises" earlier on this forum, and so I still hope that this "trade-deal" is to come about shortly.
-
now you exaggerate. The young man was NOT loitering, he was collecting scrap-metal. And THIS means lots of money for him and his family. The trouble is that he in "hot pursuit" of his task clearly overdid his matter. I am quite certain that he in future will be much more careful in pursuit of his "activity" !
