Topic: RE: So What's Playing Right Now? Username: Matt D Posted 2006-12-11 00:36:36 and read 751 times.I thought that "Forrest Gump" was/is an excellent movie, HOWEVER:
I don't like what they did to Jennys character. I mean look at Forrest: A likeable guy but totally clueless and oblivious to the fact that he was at the forefront of some of the most important events in American History, who ends up far wealthier than he's capable of imagining (at the expense of scores of Black Southern fishermen). Then you have Jenny who was wide awake and willing to take a stand for what she believed in (whether or not you agree with that particular set of views is a discussion for another day) and what does she get?
A terminal disease.
I guess there is a pretty stern lecture on morality, decision making, and consequences in there somewhere. Fine. I'm all for that. But that aside, I think her characters ending could've/should've been handled better.
Just my $.02

It's true that she did stand up for what she believed... and the movie didn't really recognize, or respect that. However, most of society at that time didn't as well. And historically, I think it's pretty accurate to say that more of the hippie crowd contracted HIV than did any other group. So I found that part of the ending to be pretty appropriate...
As for what's playin at my house... the new Incubus album, Light Grenades. I'm lovin it!
