Am I Allowed To Carry These Two Bags On The Plane?

The other day, I bought a new wheeled carry-on suitcase with total a dimension of 45 inches for my trip this week from DFW-MCO. I also have a small bag that I've had for several years with a total dimension of 36 inches that can fit under the seat in front of me. AA's website says the maximum for a carry-on is 45 inches and the maximum for a personal item is 36 inches. These bags are right at the limit , so will someone try to get me to check in the larger bag?

Is something not clear ??

you'd probably get by most gate agents, if the plane is full you may have nowhere to put the bigger one though and end up door checking it!

No, I just keep thinking that I will get a "stickler for the rules" type agent that will whip out the measuring tape, measure it and tell me that I have to check it saying it's an inch over the limit. Most likely won't happen though, but I just wanted to make sure.

But it isn't!
