Great news for the LAS crowd, the Sands Hotel and Casino brought in their latest aquisition today, a 747SP! In this day and age when just seeing one of these magnificant rare birds anywhere in the world, its great to have one based here in our own backyard...It shall join their ever increasingly large fleet of other aircraft including several BBJ's, a 767, two L-1011's and now the SP!! The old spotting days are coming back again......

So they will be sending it to the middle east and asia to pick up high rollers directly? Nice service...

Any info on who it is from?

Bet it will make that LAS-Macau trip a little less stressful. Although I don't see that the SP gives much more room than the L1011 has to offer.

It'd be so much cooler if they offered it as an on-site suite. Better yet, park it on the pool deck and incorporate it into a waterslide of some sort. There are a million possibilities in a place like Vegas...

1) Long sweep from upperdeck to lowerdeck (new hole in upperdeck floor down the hump) and out Door 3R curves back to the rear cargo door and through to the otherside coming out on the left side into the pool. (this would require an extra hole in the fuselage me thinks)

2) For wimps... Out door 2L and curve under the fusulage and around the foward landing gear

3) From the emergency exit behind the cockpit... straight shot down into the pool

4) Cut a hole in the aft bulkhead. Attach a slide out the hole. guests enter through Door 4L. They sit in a little boat and a gush of water shoots them at high speed out the back of the plane and down the slide into a pool.

Funny 777fan, in the old days (well the 90's, but for Vegas' standards that is old now) they probably would've done such a thing, and I bet most of us A.netters would've made it a point to stop by the Venetian to stay at one of the SP suites and ride the slide from the cockpit down to the pool.  Silly

In any case, it will be a thrill to see my very first LIVE 747 SP crossing the Las Vegas skies soon... soooooo exciting... I can't wait to see the first pictures our master photographers will post.

GO VEGAS! and GO SP!

But in low capacity trim without revenue cargo, it can fly from just about anywhere to just about anywhere.

Check out the Los Angeles range charts for the 77L and you get the idea. Not quite that far, but just about.

An L1011 is nowhere near as impressive as a 747. These things aren't meant for efficiency, they're meant as "ego blowjobs" for people with way more money than sense.

Hey, if I could get someone to spend a couple million bucks with my business in return for a round-trip flight on a 747SP; a "VIP penthouse suite" with a butler, tacky marble bathroom, and gold faucets; a couple of hookers; a couple cases of champagne; and a pound of caviar, I'd be making money hand over fist, too...  Smile

The aircraft appears to be the former P4-FSH, but that is not confirmed yet. It has the red stripes from that livery with everything else deleted. When it arrived today, it was blocked from all public flight tracking programs. It appears that it probably flew in from overseas. On Flight Explorer, flights from overseas with foreign registered a/c are frequently missing from the program, when they are not a scheduled flight. I have never been able to understand why this is, so I have no idea where it had arrived from. It landed at about 1430 in LAS today...

So that would make it the CI 74SP that went supersonic whilst in an uncontrolled dive off SFO some years ago, and ended up with the wings permanently bent upwards by two feet or so?

I'm tired of the A vs. B sniping. Neither make planes that shed wings randomly!

Don't think so.
Seven Triple Star would have been the titles on this plane and it was leased by Ernest Angley's Ministries.

1995 The UAE (Dubai Royal flight)
2002 Dubai Air wings (Reef Aviation)
2004 Crestwind Aviation AW of Aruba
2004 Leased to Grace Cathedral (Ernest Angley Ministries)

Ugh, isn't this the one that fell OUT OF THE SKY when it was with China Airlines?

I heard from some corporate flight attendants this aircraft was a MESS when it was with Global Peace. Things like inoperative slide/rafts and passenger service units taped up, which would prevent the O2 masks from dropping.

Global Peace apparently hasn't updated their website:

Unless the airline or operator specifically asks the FAA to include their reg or 3-letter ID in the feed then as default they don't show up. I know the guy at the FAA that makes it all happen, but you either need to be an employee of the airline/operator in a flight ops/managerial type position or the airline/operator needs to be your customer in order for you to request that their flights be tracked (and the FAA will confirm with the airline/operator that they are your customer too).
