please give me some details about air trans frequent flyer program(s). Does an upgrade come with usage, or do you always have to pay for it? What about flight changes if an air tran flight is delayed/cancelled - will air tran book you on an alternate flight (other airline) to get you where you need to go?

How about air tran connections? If incoming flight is delayed, does outgoing flight wait for passengers/luggage?

What about drinks/snacks/meals? Are those always additional costs? How about seat pitch?

AirTrans offers Business Class on its 737's and 717's.

12 seats in the Front Cabin
37" Pitch
Drinks Complementary
Belive it's just snacks served.

If I recall, anybody on any type of fare can upgrade at a set charge to the forward cabin subject to availability.

" FLYACYYZ" is correct, they are also swapping in leather seats at a pretty good rate. The snacks are also changing from time to time.If you like the big seat it's not a bad deal.

no one has answered my real question -- if the airtran flight to xxx is cancelled, will they immediatly book me on another airline?

And, is there a way to earn premium status?

Why don't you just call AirTran reservations and ask the questions?

I have, and they don't give a definitive answer - yes, they will try to get me where I need to go, but they won't commit to putting me on another airline

this is why i do not fly lcc's

I keep hearing that AirTran is different, but I need facts/substantiation

We will always put you on another airline if there is a delay or cancellation that is our fault such as a mechanical or crew scheduling error.

In the event of a weather delay or A.T.C. delay we will move M, B, Y, J, and A fares along with elite members, corporate accounts, government accounts, passengers with disabilities, and un-accompanied minors. Hopefully this helps you out.

AirTran...just like Northwest...will only book you on a competitors flight if they have no option of confirming you on their own carrier.

They will not go to an additional expense to fly you on another airline - especially during delays which are outside of their control. (ie weather, ATC delays)

Also keep in mind, that although our on-time performance may not always be stellar (although we've been banging about average recently), our completion factor remains among the highest. We seldom cancel flights....

As an Elite A+ rewards member (and a former CO plat/NW Gold), let me take a stab here...

Does an upgrade come with usage, or do you always have to pay for it?

Technically you always pay for it in some way. Upgrades can be secured with your A+ credits, or you can upgrade from any fare, on any flight, for a fee. $35/50/75 per segment, depending on flight length. However, in smaller stations (IE not ATL or MCO), I frequently get a comp upgrade at the gate because of my status.

You can earn Elite status by flying 20 credits in 90 days or 50 in 365. At this time Elite status does not expire. Elites on Y and B fares get upgrades upon purchase. If you log in to the website to book your flights, you'll see which fares are eligible for immediate upgrade. Elites can reserve seats at time of booking, regardless of fare or cabin.

Quoting Nwafflyer (Thread starter):
What about flight changes if an air tran flight is delayed/cancelled - will air tran book you on an alternate flight (other airline) to get you where you need to go?

Just like your preferred airline, yes, if they have no other option. But if they can get you there on their own metal, no, they won't. Its expensive to send a customer to another carrier.

Quoting Nwafflyer (Thread starter):
How about air tran connections? If incoming flight is delayed, does outgoing flight wait for passengers/luggage?

Again, just like NWA. Each situation is unique. For a large group on last flight of the night, probably. For one person when they can protect you on a later flight, probably not. Remember, if they delay the flight for you, it can delay every other flight that airplane does for the rest of the day. Holding the plane for you could bust 100's of connections for others.

Quoting Nwafflyer (Thread starter):
What about drinks/snacks/meals? Are those always additional costs? How about seat pitch?

The only thing there's an additional cost for is liquor in coach. Unlike NWA, theres no charge for snacks. XM radio at every seat, bring your own headphones or they'll sell you a pair to keep. Seat pitch is 37 inches in biz class/31 in coach.

All things considered NWAfflyer, give them a fair try. I think you'll be pleased with the product. It's not fancy, but it doesn't overpromise. You get a good value for what you pay. I frequently book a higher fare to get the confirmed upgrade, because the price difference isn't that big, unlike buying a YUP fare! Fly the 2 back to back, you'll swear that NWA is the low fare carrier!

I had sister who suffred a stroke and I needed to go out early from SAN on CO. CO would have charged me $500. Thats why I have elite (platimum) on US. I will try Air Tran in the near future.

I just explained that we would do that very thing for our upper fare passengers, as well as select other passengers

AirTran no longer sells headsets; they are free for the taking. You'll enjoy the XM much more, however, if you bring your own.

No "s" in the airline name either.

Air Tran First Class

They have Business Class, not first class; there is a difference.

This concludes the nitpicking for this thread.
