Reading a statement by Lufthansa concerning the launch of the Lufthansa Regional concept, I came across the following statement: "... in addition to the exchange of know-how, all will benefit, for example, from a joint reserve planning of aircraft, thus guaranteeing a high level of reliability in flight operations." Does anyone know if other mainline carriers have a joint reserve for their regional carriers as well? If so, how is it carried out, i.e. does one regional carrier keep back-up planes for all the regionals and where are those planes based? I am particulary interested in North American carriers. Thanks in advance for any infos!

In the UK Titan are the main backup for regionals. They have quite a diverse fleet of small aircraft. I've even seen them providing a backup for BA citiexpress.

Do you mean as in planes just sitting around waiting to be flown in case another plane is down for mx or something?
