I thought I'd start a thread for everyone who's attending the aviation tour(s) in the DPRK (otherwise known to the rest of the world as North Korea). For those that are unfamiliar with the tours, more information can be found here: http://www.juchetravelservices.com/T...rs/Special%20Interest%20Tours.html

So who's going? How are you getting to Beijing? For those who will be going on the May tour, let us know how it goes!

I will be on the September tour, arriving in Beijing on the 6th and taking the Tu154B option out to Shenyang:

05.09.2012 ... RIX-KBP ... Air Baltic ... Dash 8-Q400
05.09.2012 ... KBP-PEK ... Aerosvit ... B767-300ER

Will be going on to South East Asia afterwards before flying home.

Interesting tour, never heard any tourist go to the North for vacation. I sure hope I can do this tour in the future though.

There is a reasonably sized market for this kind of 'adventure' tour. Of course it's even better that this one also comes with some exceedingly rare aircraft included.

I'm in Beijing already for the May tour. Very much looking forward to it.

I was working in Shanghai most of the week, so flew PVG-PEK with CA on an A343.

I will be ending the trip in SHE to get the Tu-154B and from there will fly SHE-PEK on CA, PEK-IKA on an Iran Air B747-SP then finally IKA-AUH with EY.

I will certainly let you know how the May tour goes.

Hey! Good idea to start a thread, I was actually thinking of starting one myself.

I will be going on the July tour. I arrive in PEK out of AMS and FRA on the LH 388 on the 10th, in order to squeeze in some PEK sightseeing.

I fly back to SHE (duh!) and from there on the same afternoon, to PVG on the Shanghai Airlines 738. After a few days in Shanghai I will fly the CA 77W on the 24th from SHA to PEK and the LH 346 to MUC and AMS the next day.

If all goes well I should log 8 new types in 2 weeks

And a little birdy tells me you're gonna have to suffer a trans-atlantic flight just after that to take the Sacrememto DC8..

Such a hard life you lead.......

I'm planning on going on one of the tours in 2013 (and if they don't have an aviation one, just the regular tour). Would have loved to go this year but finances don't permit it!

I will be on the September tour, arriving in Beijing on the 7th with LH from CDG to PEK via MUC.

I took the Tu-154 option to Shenyang. And then home with LH from SHE to CDG via FRA

New types during this trip : A346, A343, IL-62, Tu-134, Tu-154. Not bad !

Stupidly I neglected to share my details! I'll be on the September tour, also heading back to Shenyang on the 154.

As for my travel to/from PEK;

4/9 LON-BUD - Undecided (inspiration welcome!)
5/9 BUD-KBP Aerosvit/Dniproavia EMB145
5/9 KBP-PEK Aerosvit 763 (With Dan, see above)
18/9 PEK-TAS Uzbekistan 763
18/9 TAS-LHR Uzbekistan 752.

As for the stats - at least four new airlines, four new countries and three all new (not sub type) aircraft.

Really looking forward to it, despite the debt I'll be in!

Same here Hywel... Can't wait to see pics from this years tours.. This may be a daft question but are cameras and such allowed into North Korea?

I read somewhere that cameras with a lens 100mm or less are allowed. Ipads/ipods/laptops are allowed but no mobile phones, which are confiscated on arrival.

Off-topic: On the pictures above an Il-14 is clearly shown. I wonder if there's any way to have a sightseeing flight with this aircraft instead of the An-24 - or maybe both. Has anybody already e-mailed the tour operator about this? Otherwise I'll do it.

Edit: E-Mail already sent. Couldn't wait. I'll certainly be interested in such a flight!

I swear I read an email from the organiser saying he saw what appeared to be an operational IL14 on the ramp and was making enquiries. I can't find the email now though!

Just landed at SHE aboard Il-62 from FNJ after a fantastic week flying Tu-134, An-24, Il-18 with unprecedented ramp and photo access. Will post more later but couldn't wait to tell you how successful this first trip has been. July / Sep / Oct trips are almost sold out but there may be another put in for Aug. Contact Juche Tours. Meanwhile stand by for an avalanche of pics and trip reports from what everyone agrees was the best aviation tour ever. PS DPRK v friendly and interesting.
