I did some excellent spotting a few weeks ago on the top level of the new Intermodal Center at MIA. Just passing it along to anyone looking for a good spot for MIA photography!

I was there again this afternoon. Absolutely nobody around. I setup on the far northwest corner of the structure. Was great because the winds were coming from the west today, so I got a lot of video of landings on 26R.

The best description I can give of where it is - it's on the top level of the Intermodal Center and at the far northwest corner.
It's only good for ops on the north runways (though fortunately those are the "busy" runways).

If you mean the latter, you'll have some serious problems if any of our contractors see you. This project is an OSHA certified project, so if you're on the project site, be ready for major issues. For the time being, it's private property and anyone entering the site must be employed by one of the subcontractors and certified by the primary contractor with work site safety training and third rail training. (That's why I get to spot from there on my lunch break).

I collected my rental car from there so was pretty much ok for photography in November last year. A cop car drove by, didn't ask me any questions.
To be honest I didn't really like the location, found the sun a little harsh, but I was there just after mid-day. I would've thought late afternoon and during sunset this location will produce some great shots of aircraft arriving on 26L and R
Here is a small over view of what you see from the the far corner, you can get aircraft in the air with nothing but blue sky as a background, or subject to Heat haze and lens a nice overview of the airfield and paint/maint areas.

Yeah, you're telling me! I was there about 3pm on Sunday and even though the temps were "only" about 80 degrees F, it was still kind of brutal with all that white cement from the pavement and walls of the structure all around reflecting and concentrating the heat. One definitely needs to bring a lot of water if they're going to be there midday.
But I still think it's a great spot when they're landing to the west.

These shots are amazing! but where is the Intermodal Center? Is it the new large parking lot they just built? I spent a good hour looking for it and I just ended up at El Dorado, I think I may be confused onto which side of the airport its on though.

I've never been to America before but I had a look at the car rental building on Google Earth and it looks like a good spot. It might help looking on Google Earth so you can find directions to get there.

The Rental Car Center (the Intermodal Center isn't operational yet) is on the East side of the airport, off of Le Jeune Road. If you ended up at El Dorado you were on the completely wrong side. The Rental Car Center will also only be good for Westerly flow, since Easterly takeoffs will be much too high.

East side of airport......but are we talking east or west side of Lejune? The one problem is, when westerlies, the north side is much higher AA percentage than the south side.
